Filled with twist and turns, romance, drama and a surprise ending, this work in progress starts in the twenty-first century with Elizabeth Morgan fleeing her abusive fiance, a man  who has threatened to kill her if she dares leave him.

On her way to seek refuge at the family's ancestral plantation in South Carolina, she swirves to miss a deer in the road, and winds up in a ditch. When she wakes up, she manages to free herself from her crumpled car, and has no choice but to finish the journey on foot. Fortunately, the house is only a half mile away. Exhausted and suffering from her accident related injuries, Libby makes it to her destination, only to collapse on the veranda.

She awakens in her great aunt's bed, and is being tended to by an African American woman, dressed as if she had just stepped out of a civil war novel. When she asks about the woman's identity and how she came to be in her aunt's room, the woman tells her she must wait until the master returns and all will be disclosed. When she later goes in search of the maid, Elizabeth finds she is very much alone in the huge home. During a search of the library, she finds a key that unlocks a secret compartment in an antique desk. What she finds inside, opens the door to a past filled with secrets, passion, heart break, war and a confederate officer who has been searching for his lost love of over one hundred and fifty years.
